Certain states require additional NMLS approved elective education hours. These required education hours are either included within or added on top of the 8 hour comprehensive requirement that each mortgage loan originator needs to complete every year to renew a license. Look up what your state specific education requirement is below. 

As of Jan. 2014 the states that require a specific elective are : AZ 1 Hr , CO 2 Hr, GA 1 Hr, KY 4 Hr ID 1 Hr, HI 1 Hr, MS 4 Hr, NC 1 Hr,  NM 1 Hr, NJ 4 Hr, NY4 Hr, OR 2 Hr, RI 1 Hr , PA 1 Hr,VT 1 Hr, WA 1 Hr, WV 1 Hr, WDC 1 Hr
