Steps needed to become a Loan Officer in Colorado
- Determine which division of DORA (Department of Regulatory Agencies) you need to register with.
- Complete the pre-licensing classes (Mortgage Educators & Compliance offers a great 20 Hour Pre - License Education Course)
- Take and pass the Secure and Fair Enforcement (S.A.F.E.) Mortgage Loan Originator Exam
- Obtain a complete set of fingerprints.
- Register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and Registry online.
- Purchase a surety bond in compliance with state law
- Purchase an errors and omissions insurance policy.
- Complete the Colorado Division of Real Estate mortgage broker license application.
*Colorado does not require state-specific law to be taught but MLOs will be tested on Colorado mortgage lending law.
